The Wall Street Journal tried out our Photo Restoration Services. “With Phojoe, the uploading process took only few seconds and we used Google Checkout to pay a $39 flat restoration fee ahead of time. Our photo was restored with similar efficiency.
We received the final product—a high-resolution image of the original print—via email six days later, without a chance to formally approve the photo. At the end of the lengthy email, which mostly talked about options for obtaining our print, we also had the option of requesting revisions. Results were crisp, though the chin looked sharper than the original photo. Co-founder Emy Craciunescu says Phojoe offers unlimited retouching and that the true shape of the chin wasn’t clear from the original photo. We were satisfied with the photo so we didn’t ask for a redo.
Wording on the email was confusing and didn’t state that we would need to pay a $7 shipping fee for our “free” photo. Mr. Craciunescu says the shipping charge was mentioned in the Google Checkout invoice when we made our first payment. As for the lack of final approval, he says the order is mailed out as soon as the request is made—and before confirmation of the shipping charge—in order to provide fast service.
The photo arrived unbent and printed on glossy paper, which looked less authentic than the original matte version. Mr. Craciunescu, who runs the company with his wife, says we could have asked for a matte version, though we didn’t see a matte option when we first ordered.”
